Biography

Layla Reg , Multidisciplinary artist

Born in 1982 in vibrant Tunis, Tunisia, Layla Reg is a multidisciplinary versatile and compelling contemporary artist based in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her academic journey began at the prestigious University of the Sorbonne in Paris, France, igniting her focus on feminist art, Women I-dentities. She passionately dissects the societal roles imposed upon women, from her conservative upbringing to the broader European context.

Layla's distinctiveness extends to her innovative use of materials. Renowned for sewing, she boldly addresses women's experiences in installations like "My Red Thread(t)" (2019-), sewing on unconventional materials, such as sanitary napkins. "I'm Scare" (2003) sees her sew fake skins, unveiling concealed layers of emotion and identity.

Her art embodies a universal visual language grounded in conceptual thought, centre around themes of injustice, taboos, and acceptance. Layla's thought-provoking installations and ink works, titled "Ink Anchored to My Thoughts," offer an unfiltered glimpse into her inner world. In the realm of neo-expressionism, her portraits defy societal norms, illuminating human desires while narrating the intimate stories of her subjects. Her art is a personal catharsis and a profound exploration of the unspoken and concealed aspects of existence.

Influenced by modern and contemporary artists, Layla's art journey continues to evolve, drawing inspiration from Romanticism, Neo-Expressionism, Existentialism, and Conceptualism. Her works grace exhibitions across Germany and adorn private art collections worldwide, resonating across France, Germany, and Tunisia.
